<p>The Xezo Maestro® Tahitian Mother of Pearl rollerball pen features a round shape and a smooth, glossy finish that brings out the deep undertones in the nacre. There is no clear coating on top of the material; the shine is instead a result of an intensive hand-polishing procedure that showcases the pure beauty of untreated oceanic mother of pearl.</p><p>Each limited edition pen has fittings made of solid brass which have been plated first with titanium for durability, then plated with 18 karat gold for a luxurious finish. Every pen is serialized and entirely handmade. <br>The mother of pearl we use is a natural material, and every panel is unique. Every piece is cut, inlaid, and polished by hand. Due to this, some distinctions in the colors and textures in these pens may occur, helping make your pen one of a kind. </p><p>Some makers only produce pens with small pieces of nacre because the cost and technical skill required to source large, high quality pieces of mother of pearl are so high. Xezo believes in going the extra mile in production; although it took us years of challenges to develop these pens, we know that the hard-to-achieve aesthetics of single-cut long panels of Tahitian black mother of pearl are worth the cost and effort.<br>Mother of pearl is not only beautiful—it’s also known as one of the most durable natural materials. Xezo uses a grade of mother of pearl with a hardness of 4.5 on the Mohs scale. For comparison, a fingernail has a hardness of 2.5, a knife’s steel blade has a hardness of 5.5, and copper or brass have a hardness of 3. We use this toughest grade of mother of pearl in our luxury pens because we believe that the best gift is one that represents enduring love and care. The pen barrel is round and smooth.</p>
